ICS Track & Field Competes in Truman-Wills Meet, Johnson Takes Gold in 3 Events

ICS Track & Field were welcomed to Austin High School to compete in the 2022 Truman-Wills Track & Field Meet on February 11th and 12th! ICS was one of 11 schools participating; the schools attending were: Anthony High School, Canutillo High School, El Paso High School, Andress High School, Austin High School, Bowie High School, El Dorado High School, Jefferson High School, Parkland High School, and Loretto High School (Girls Only). The Warriors’ 6 participants performed well earning them a tie for 7th in Men’s Open, with Andress High School and ahead of El Paso High School, and 7th place in Men’s Varsity, ahead of Bowie High School. Sophomore Josiah Johnson had a strong day earning gold in three events and bronze in another. Johnson took 1st in the Varsity Long Jump with a distance of 20’ 6” on Day 1. On Day 2 Johnson took 1st in the Varsity 800 Meters with a time of 2:12.72 and took 1st in the Varsity 300m Hurdles with a time of 40.97. In the 110m Hurdles, Johnson came in 3rd with a time of 16.19. (Fr.) Richard Jackson-Lopez, (So.) Josiah Johnson, (So.) Israel Quintana, and (So.) Abel Velasquez competed in the Men’s Open 4x400m Relay and finished 3rd with a time of 4:13.14. Israel Quintana finished 4th in both the Varsity 1600 Meters and Varsity 3200 Meters with a time of 11:21.31. In the Varsity 800 Meters Quintana came in 5th with a time of 2:16.70.
