The ICS Athletic Department is happy to announce the hiring of a new Athletic Director. John R. Bohlin will take over as the head of ICS Athletics beginning in the 2022-23 school year. John “Jay” Bohlin began his athletic career as a Student Assistant Coach with UTEP Women’s Basketball, under Hall of Fame coach Sandra Rushing, from 1997-1999. While at UTEP Jay built a personal relationship with Naismith Hall of Fame Coach Don Haskins, allowing Coach Haskins to pour some of his coaching knowledge into Jay. From 2000 to 2005 he was on the coaching staff of Dallas Christian College Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams and Volleyball team. He would go on to be the first Head Coach of the inaugural JV Men’s Basketball team. From 2007 to 2011 Bohlin spent time coaching several sports at Conrad High School in Dallas, TX. He was named District Coach of the Year as the Head Soccer coach, was the Head Wrestling coach, assisted in Baseball and assisted in Basketball. Bohlin was also an assistant Varsity Football coach and helped lead Conrad Varsity Football to the most wins in program history. John Bohlin spent the 2011-12 school year at Adams High School in Dallas, as the Varsity Volleyball Head Coach and was named the District Coach of the Year, leading his team to the most wins in program history. Jay returned to El Paso’s Ysleta High School in 2012 as Offensive Coordinator and Running Backs coach. He would return to the DFW area in 2013, to Creekview High School. Bohlin took on the roles of Tight Ends, Fullbacks, and Special Teams coach for Varsity Football. He was a part of the winningest football program in Creekview history, and an Assistant Coach on the State Champion Girl’s Soccer Team. From 2016 to 2022 he coached baseball, basketball, Special Teams, and Offensive Line at Central Texas Christian School in Temple, TX.
Head of School John Davis said in Bohlin’s introduction, “We are very excited about the direction he is going to bring to our school…he has a heart for mentoring leaders, for mentoring coaches; holding them accountable and mentoring them, and their relationship with Jesus Christ.”
“His resume speaks for itself. He has years of experience coaching many different sports, and has played key roles in highly successful programs. He is a winner, a competitor, and an ambitious leader, who will help the ICS Athletic Department get to the next level. He loves the Lord and will keep him at the forefront of everything that is done within these walls,” said Assistant Athletic Director Aaron Petersen.
Jay Bohlin plans to arrive in El Paso in late May to begin his transition to his new role. Please join us in welcoming John “Jay” Bohlin as the new Athletic Director at Immanuel Christian School!
