Varsity Tennis Coaches

Gilbert Valerio

Varsity Tennis & Jr. High Tennis Head Coach

Having over 13 years of experience at Immanuel, Gilbert J. Valerio was born and raised in El Paso and graduated from Bel Air High School. He went on to attain a BAAS Degree in Business Management from Howard Payne University and a Masters in Elementary Education from Grand Canyon University. Not only is Coach Valerio a tennis coach he serves as one of Immanuel’s 6th-grade teachers.  Coach Valerio and his wife have two kids of their own that have graduated from Immanuel within the last few years.  Coach Valerio commits so much of his time and energy to the tennis teams where he has developed a winning program.  His programs have been the fastest growing over the years.  Because of his dedication to the kids and the program, his teams have brought home four team state championships in the last six years, three-team state runner-up honors, several team district championships, and many individual district/state championships.  His drive to bring a team together to become “FAMILY” has stuck for good.  Awwwww…Warriors on three…one! two! three! WARRIORS!

'Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.'

Joining our program in 2002, Mr. Rubi was born and raised in El Paso.  He studied architecture at Texas Tech before following God’s calling to work in Ministry.  He transferred to Howard Payne University and earned a degree in Biblical Studies.  Bobby joined the Immanuel staff as a 6th-grade teacher and coach.  The following year he taught 7th, 8th, 10th, and 12th grade Bible and coached jr high football coach, jr high boys basketball, and jr high track.  From 2004-2006 he served as the assistant principal and in 2007 the secondary principal.  It was not till 2008 that he made his way into the athletic director role full time.  He has a true love for kids and enjoys watching them compete in the sport they love.  In 2003 Bobby Rubi was married to Kelly Rubi (his three 6th grade classes participated in their wedding reception).  They have three God-loving children…Landon, Jacob, and Tyler.  They all attend Immanuel Christian School and are proud to be called Warriors.  He enjoys playing tennis, jogging, gardening, and spending time with his family in his free-time. Bobby and his family are active members of Hope City Community Church.
